Auditory processing disorder is a glitch in the mind’s talent to filter and procedure sounds that makes it difficult (even painful) to obtain, organize, and use auditory information. Some kids with APD can’t filter out background noise, making it maddening to paintings in a hectic school room. Other kids understand sounds incorrectly, mixing up ga and da sounds, for example. And still others disregard portions of a conversation or pass over verbal nuances. Roughly 7 % of all youngsters have some type of auditory processing problem, but many are misdiagnosed because their signs look such a lot like ADHD.
